WE'VE TURNED OUR LOVE FOR THIS AMAZING INGREDIENT INTO AWARD-WINNING ORGANIC DAIRY-FREE ICE CREAM that's THICK, LUXURIOUS AND SUPER TASTY.
In 2014 our Chief Coconut, Cecily, quit a successful retail career to follow her passion for clean food, setting out to make a product that was not only amazingly delicious, but also genuinely good for you; one that would make people feel healthy as well as happy. After much experimenting, and an awful lot of ice cream tasting, Cecily made her obsession a reality and Coconuts Naturally was born (about the same time as Cecily's first daughter, as it happens!).
To date we have been awarded a Gold Star at the Great Taste Awards 2016, were Highly Commended at the Free From Food awards 2016, and won the Best Supplier 2015 at the international conference for the Institute of Functional Medicine - welcome recognition of the fact we are crazy generous with the healthy stuff, and stay well clear of the cheap fillers and other nasties that are so often used in the ice cream business, even in other non-dairy versions and well-known 'luxury' brands.
WHY THE COCONUT?
Coconuts are truly one of the greatest gifts on the planet. In sanskrit the coconut palm is known as 'kalpa vriksha', meaning 'the tree that supplies all that is needed to live'. They are highly nutritious, a rich source of vitamins C, E and B1, B3, B5 and B6 as well as minerals like iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous.
The saturated fats found in coconuts are in the form of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) - they're the good ones! Your body can't actually store MCFAs as fat, but they have a host of other beneficial effects. MCFAs stimulate the thyroid and with regular consumption can increase your metabolism. They can also help to normalise levels of 'bad' cholesterol by promoting its conversion into pregnenolone. All very science-y, we know, but the important thing is that pregnenolene counters fatigue, enhances memory and has a beautifying effect through improving circulation. And If all that wasn't enough, coconut fats also have antimicrobial and antifungal properties, great for maintaining optimum health.
